Born in Japan in 2003, Daisuke Yagi began studying piano at the age of four. At thirteen, he became the youngest-ever prizewinner at the prestigious Pozzoli International Piano Competition, receiving Third Prize, a distinction shared by past laureates such as Maurizio Pollini. He subsequently won First Prize at several major international competitions, notably the Città di Cantù and Lyon International Piano Competitions, again setting
records as the youngest winner in the competition’s history. In 2025, he was unanimously awarded First Prize at the International Amadeus Piano Competition, together with five special prizes, including the Audience Prize, Chopin Prize, and Critics’ Jury Prize.

His artistry has attracted the admiration and close attention of distinguished musicians, including Martha Argerich, while Piotr Anderszewski has taken a personal interest in his artistic and professional development. From 2020 to 2022, Yagi was selected as a CHANEL Pygmalion Days Artist, presenting a regular recital series in Tokyo, and he has received ongoing support from ID Holdings since 2020. He is a ROHM Music Foundation Scholar for 2026–2027.

Beyond his achievements as a pianist, Yagi is distinguished by his intellectual and interdisciplinary approach to music. He explores the piano repertoire through academic, philosophical, and historical inquiry, shaping a uniquely informed perspective that spans from Renaissance works to contemporary music. He currently studies piano with Connie Shih and Jacques Rouvier at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, where he also pursues Early Music studies with Florian Birsak. He has also worked closely with renowned musicians including Aki Kuroda, Tatiana Zelikman, and Alexander Gadjiev. In addition, he is completing a degree in Aesthetics and Science of Arts (Philosophy) at Keio University.
